The Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB), through its Climate Change Program, successfully concluded a two-day National Seminar (23–24 July 2026) at the CCDB Climate Centre, Sreepur, Gazipur. The event brought together scholarship awardees, academic supervisors, government representatives, researchers, and development partners to strengthen the connection between climate research, policy, and practice.
The seminar featured a keynote by 𝗠𝗱. 𝗙𝗼𝗲𝘇𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗸𝗱𝗲𝗿, Head of Climate Change Program, CCDB, who highlighted the climate research landscape in Bangladesh. The event was graced by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚.𝗞.𝗠. 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗶𝘇𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻, Vice Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University, as Chief Guest. Discussions reaffirmed the importance of CCDB’s Scholarship Program for Sustainable Climate Actions in advancing evidence-based climate solutions and policymaking.

Three thematic technical sessions were held:
🌱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 & 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 — Chaired by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗯 𝗠𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿, Director (Planning & Evaluation Wing), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI). Expert discussants included 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗱. 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻 (Gazipur Agricultural University) and 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗱. 𝗠𝗼𝘇𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗲 (BRRI). Researchers from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Gazipur Agricultural University, and Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University presented their work.

🌿 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 & 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 — Chaired by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗮𝘇𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱, Professor (LPR), Department of Geology, University of Dhaka. Expert discussants included 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗠𝗱. 𝗔𝘁𝗶𝗸𝘂𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗺(Khulna University), 𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗦. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗶 (University of Rajshahi), and 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝘂𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘂𝘀 (BRAC University). Presentations were delivered by researchers from Bandarban University, Khulna University, BRAC C3ER, and PRAAN.
⚡ 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 — Chaired by 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗶 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝘆, Director (MIM), Department of Disaster Management. Expert discussants included 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗮𝘇𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗦𝗮𝘇𝘇𝗮𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗻 (Bangladesh Water Development Board), 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝘆 (University of Dhaka), and 𝗡𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗺, Gender Expert. Researchers from Bangladesh Agricultural University, the University of Dhaka, and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University presented their findings.

The sessions fostered meaningful dialogue among researchers, academics, policymakers, and practitioners, helping bridge the gap between science and practice while identifying future directions for climate research in Bangladesh.

The seminar concluded with a strategic consultation on the future of the Scholarship Program, facilitated by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗦. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗶, CCDB Commission Member and Professor of Public Administration, University of Rajshahi. Participants reflected on achievements, lessons learned, and opportunities to further strengthen climate research, innovation, and leadership in Bangladesh.

Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB) is going to organize a two-day National Seminar on Climate Research: Bridging Science and Practice: Scaling Knowledge for Community Resilience bringing together prominent climate researchers, policymakers, academics, development practitioners, private sector and students to exchange knowledge, showcase evidence-based research, and explore practical pathways for translating scientific findings into climate action.

The seminar will feature research and dialogue on climate-adaptive agriculture, water and forest resource management, disaster risk reduction, social resilience, and renewable energy—highlighting innovative solutions and actionable insights for building resilient communities across Bangladesh.

From 05–09 July 2026, Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB) hosted an exposure visit for representatives from 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 (𝗖𝗪𝗦𝗔), Pakistan, and its local partner organizations under the 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 (𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗣) project, supported by 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁 𝗳ü𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝘁 (𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱), 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆.

The objective of the exposure visit was to offer visitors practical insights into climate action in Bangladesh, while showcasing the initiatives undertaken by CCDB to address climate solutions and foster community resilience.

A total of 05 participants from the CWSA (02 representatives) and its local partner organizations (03 representatives) of Pakistan visited Bangladesh:

Community World Service Asia (CWSA)

Christian Study Centre (CSC)

Roots for Equity (RFE)

Pakistan Partnership Initiative (PPI).

On July 5, the Pakistan team visited the CCDB Climate Centre in Gazipur to explore climate adaptation and mitigation technologies. They assessed practical applications and exchanged insights with colleagues from CWSA and CCDB regarding climate change and the RECAP project. The team identified significant potential for replicating these adaptation and mitigation solutions in Pakistan.

On 07 July, a field visit was arranged in the project areas of CCDB in Morrelganj, Bagerhat. The visiting team members got empirical coastal climate vulnerability of the communities and interventions to solve these challenges. They observed the muti-purpose cyclone shelter constructed by CCDB in Fasiatola village, a women-friendly and climate-resilient space, provides emergency shelter support during natural disasters and operated year-round as a community and educational centre for local residents. The visiting team members also visited the Sonnashi Community Climate Resilient Centre (CCRC), a community-led platform aimed at building a capable and climate-resilient community through active participation of local people in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.

On July 7, a field visit was conducted in CCDB’s project areas in Morrelganj, Bagerhat, where the team assessed community climate vulnerability and interventions. They observed a multi-purpose cyclone shelter in Fasiatola village that serves as a women-friendly, climate-resilient emergency shelter and community center. They visited the Sonnashi Community Climate Resilient Centre, which aims to foster a capable and resilient community by involving local residents in climate change mitigation and resilience-building efforts, along with discussions on fund management and capacity strengthening. Additionally, they talked to the community members and got ideas about resilience building approach and opportunities for strengthening institutional capacity.

On 08 July, the visitors had a meeting with the Senior Management Team (SMT) and relevant colleagues at the CCDB Head Office, Dhaka. Juliate Keya Malakar, Executive Director of CCDB, highlighted the organizational goals, objectives, and motto and mentioned that the RECAP project can strengthen regional collaboration and benefit participating countries.

Through the exposure visit to Bangladesh, participants from CWSA and local partners learned about CCDB’s efforts in climate change interventions. They are expected to apply these insights in their areas, fostering innovation for climate action. Besides, the visit will strengthen the partnership among the CCDB, CWSA, and RECAP’s local partner organizations to achieve BftW’s climate goals in South Asia.

On 𝟭𝟰 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, a distinguished delegation from the 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 (𝗗𝗙𝗔𝗧), 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, paid a monitoring and engagement visit to a 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵 (𝗖𝗖𝗗𝗕) project in Gopalganj.

The purpose of the monitoring and engagement visit was to gain firsthand insights into the project’s implementation, achievements, and impact. The findings from the visit will help enhance the effectiveness of the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) and inform DFAT’s broader engagement with civil society partners.

During the opening session, 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗿, Executive Director of CCDB, presented an overview of the organization’s journey since 1972, highlighting its ongoing development initiatives, long-standing commitment to empowering marginalized communities, and future strategic vision. She shared how CCDB has been working alongside disadvantaged people across Bangladesh to reduce poverty and improve their quality of life.

Following her presentation, 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵𝗮, Deputy Executive Director of CCDB, highlighted the diverse development programmes CCDB is implementing across the country’s districts. 𝗔𝗯𝗱𝘂𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶, Project Coordinator of the CCDB-SLPFIVCD Project, conducted the inaugural session.

During the field visit, the DFAT delegation met with CCDB staff, project participants, and other stakeholders. They listened to community members’ experiences, observed project activities firsthand, and witnessed how the initiative is contributing to improved livelihoods, greater resilience, and positive social change among disadvantaged families.

CCDB is grateful for the continued support of Transform Aid International (TAI) and values the opportunity to share its work with the visiting DFAT delegation. Such visits foster learning, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to more effective and sustainable development initiatives for vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.

A powerful five-day journey of learning, dialogue, and collaboration concluded at the CCDB Climate Center through the 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗙𝗔𝗘𝗩) training. Organized under the 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗮𝗷 (“𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲”) project, a GAC-funded initiative, the training brought together 25 participants from Bangladesh and Nepal, representing women leaders, local government representatives, journalists, civil society actors, community members, and partner organizations.

The training was facilitated by 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗮 (𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳) and 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝘆 (𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳) from the 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲, 𝗦𝘁. 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀 𝗫𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮, in collaboration with 𝗖𝗖𝗗𝗕.

Through interactive discussions, group activities, role plays, and shared experiences, participants explored feminist advocacy approaches, inclusive leadership, and strategies to strengthen the meaningful participation of grassroots, Dalit, Indigenous (Adivasi), and religious minority women and girls in local governance.

The five-day learning journey created a space for diverse voices to connect, reflect, and develop collective ideas for promoting gender justice and more inclusive, accountable communities.

CCDB is currently undertaking a strategic planning process to define its direction and priorities for the next five years. As part of this initiative, a three-day Strategic Planning Workshop was held from 11–13 June 2026 at HOPE Foundation, Baroipara, Savar.

Key stakeholders came together to reflect on CCDB’s vision, mission, and future priorities in response to the changing development landscape. Through meaningful discussions and participatory sessions, participants identified strategic opportunities, explored organizational challenges, and shared valuable recommendations for strengthening CCDB’s long-term impact.

This workshop marked an important step toward shaping a forward-looking strategic framework that will guide CCDB to remain resilient, responsive, and better prepared to address future challenges while continuing its mission of service and development.
