Agreement with BCSIR.
CCDB and Institute of Fuel Research and Development (IFRD) of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) has signed an agreement for Joint Research for the Development of Highly Efficient Improved Cook Stove.
Improved Cook Stove (ICS) programs have been promoted in Bangladesh by The Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) since the 1970s and early 1980s. The Government of Bangladesh and many non government organizations took initiative for research and dissemination of ICS for efficient energy usage, saving trees and the protection of the environment. Most of the ICS developed by different organization was made of mud or concrete and still the efficiency of those cook stove is not at the satisfactory level (around 20-25%). However in other countries, different refractory tiles and metal was used to increase the efficiency of the ICS. In some cases up to 40% efficiency are claimed for the respective ICS types. Therefore, CCDB wants to implement a joint research with BCSIR to revisit our existing cook stove models and apply modifications with refractory tiles and others metal to enhance the efficiency of ICS.
The development of a new ICS type for rural households is a corner stone of a larger initiative of CCDB, funded by Bread for the World (Germany), where the objective is to capacitate CCDB to implement and operate a countrywide ICS carbon program that reduces CO2 emissions, deforestation and improves the livelihood of the poor. This research will be done in six Upazillas of Bangladesh (Patharghata, Morelgonj, Shyamnagar, Gouronadi, Gopalgonj Sadar and Bandarban).
