Disaster Resilience Education and Communities (DREC)
The Disaster Resilience Education and Communities (DRAC), funded by Global Ministries, USA, aims to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience in educational institutions and their neighboring communities. The project has been implemented in six schools since January 2024 in the Shyamnager sub-district of Satkhira district. The project is strengthening School Disaster Management Committees (SDMCs), increasing awareness and knowledge about disaster preparedness among students, teachers, and community members, and encouraging climate-resilient agricultural practices in the homes within the project area. The project’s target population is 1375 (School children-1200, Parents-100, School Teachers-30, School Management Committee-45 45). This school-based disaster risk reduction initiative in coastal Bangladesh will strengthen schools and communities, enhancing their resilience to natural disasters and climate change impacts in vulnerable areas.
